Geography Intent

At Ashbury CE Primary School, we aim to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the vast world in which we live. Through geographical enquiry, which reflects the dynamic nature of our world and its people, children will develop their critical thinking and questioning skills. Our intention is to equip children with geographical skills, knowledge and understanding that extends beyond our village and the United Kingdom in to our ever-changing world.

We will motivate our children to appreciate and understand why they need to take a responsible and active part in contributing to and protecting our world.

As they grow up and persevere to make our world a better place where we are compassionate towards others, they will understand and appreciate different cultures, and become responsible and compassionate citizens, within a world of differing social, political, cultural and economic backgrounds.

Geography Implementation

To achieve our aims, lessons are planned to ensure children are challenged and motivated, enhancing their love for learning.  Our lessons are cross curricular and links across subjects are made when this is possible.  Children are provided with the best resources possible; enabling staff to make lessons practical, engaging and active.  We provide constant support for our children and through this engagement, all children are able to achieve and reach for their goals with confidence.

Teachers model and instruct on the key skills and share key knowledge for each lesson, then allowing children time to practice, investigate and develop independently, while offering support where needed.
