Art and Design
Art & Design Intent
At Ashbury CE Primary School we believe that art is central to providing creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We want pupils to have the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express themselves meaningfully.
Art enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think. Children experiment with their ideas, their use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. Art lessons will open their mind to possibilities, allow them to investigate their curiosities, develop their critical thinking skills and reflect with resilience, upon their finished work.
We will help the children as Ashbury School become confident and positive creators of art in all its many forms, so that they develop an appreciation of art that lasts long into their future in our ever changing World.
Art & Design Implementation
To achieve our aims, lessons are planned to ensure children are challenged and motivated, enhancing their love for learning. Our lessons are cross curricular and links across subjects are made when this is possible. Children are provided with the best resources possible; enabling staff to make lessons practical, engaging and active. We provide constant support for our children and through this engagement all children are able to achieve and reach for their goals with confidence.
Teachers model and instruct on the key skills and share key knowledge for each lesson, then allowing children time to practice, investigate and develop independently, while offering support where needed.
